Apex Legends Mobile is on its way to smartphones. Respawn has revealed that a beta for a touchscreen-compatible version of the iconic battle royale game will be released shortly. All you need to remember is right here.
Mobile gaming is becoming more feasible as new smartphones advance, and many of the biggest developers have been focusing on making versions of their games for those on handheld devices.
Some titles, such as PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and the Call of Duty series, also made the transition to mobile early. Apex Legends is the next game to have the same treatment.
Apex Legends Mobile release date
EA announced in October 2019 that a smartphone version of Apex Legends will be released in the 2022 fiscal year, which starts in October 2021. This release window, however, has since been adjusted.
Apex Legends’ smartphone port will now be available in the third quarter of 2021.
This puts the smartphone release anytime between the beginning of July and the end of September, but there would be opportunities to play well before that if you live in a specific location.
On April 19, Respawn revealed that the first regional beta testing for the mobile game would begin later that month, with closed betas for a “few thousand fans” beginning in India and the Philippines.
The beta will then “roll out to more areas and players around the world in the coming months.”
How to register for Apex Legends Mobile beta
The first experiments will begin in “Spring 2021” and will be available only on Android devices. “As we continue to research, we will extend the scale of these experiments, add additional areas, and introduce iOS support,” Respawn added. When we are able to expand, we will open a website where you can pre-register for the game and sign up for beta news.”
Who is developing Apex Legends Mobile?
According to Apex game director Chad Grenier, Respawn Entertainment is taking a hands-on approach to developing the smartphone edition.
“We’ve assembled a dedicated team here at Respawn comprised of mobile game development professionals to lead the production of Apex Legends Mobile,” Grenier said. “However, it is a joint endeavour with our existing Apex Legends team and other partners.”
Tencent, according to a previous report from IGN India, is involved in the production. The Chinese business also has a wealth of expertise in the field, having ported Call of Duty to mobile devices.
Will Apex Legends be on iPhone and Android?
Apex Legends Mobile will only be available on Android devices during the first round of beta tests, but Grenier stated that as testing progresses and the game approaches a full release, iOS support will be included.
“The first of these [betas] will launch in Spring 2021, and will only be available on Android devices,” wrote Apex’s director. “As we progress through training, we will increase the scale of these experiments, add additional areas, and introduce iOS support.”
Will Apex Legends Mobile feature cross-play?
We already have a solid response for this one: no, Apex Legends Mobile will not be cross-compatible with PC or console, so you will only be able to compete against other mobile teams.
“Apex Legends Mobile is specifically developed for touchscreens, with streamlined controls and careful optimizations that result in the most advanced battle royale fighting possible on a phone,” according to Respawn.
With the notable exception of Fortnite, most handheld games are mostly kept apart from their PC and console equivalents, and considering the difference in capacity between a tablet and a gaming rig/console, it does make sense when it comes to a fast-paced game like Apex.
Is Apex Legends Mobile free?
Yes, Apex Legends Mobile, like the PC and console models, is completely free to enjoy.
However, as predicted, paying cosmetic items will be available, while Respawn promises players that it will “never contain paid items that grant a gameplay advantage.”
Apex Legends Mobile will also have its own Battle Passes, along with special collectible cosmetics and unlockable items not included in the PC and console versions of the game.
